WHS Cell Phone Policy
Each Building will have its own cell phone/electronic device policy listed on the District website.
All Winnebago High School students are provided with a Chromebook and charger at the beginning of the year. This device needs to accompany students to school each day and should come fully charged.
The use of personal electronic devices and other technology at school is a privilege, not a right. An electronic device includes but is not limited to, the following: phones, smart devices (smartwatches included), Bluetooth earbuds, audio or video recording devices, personal digital assistants (PDA), iPod©, iPad©, laptop computers, tablet computers, or other similar electronic devices.
* The school and school district is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage to any electronic device brought to school.
During instructional time, which includes class periods, electronic devices must be kept powered off/silent and out of sight or in the classroom storage caddy unless permission is granted by an administrator, teacher, or school staff member. Students are allowed to use electronic devices during non-instructional time, which is defined as before and after school, during the student’s lunch period, and during passing periods. Electronic devices may never be used in any manner that disrupts the educational environment, violates student conduct rules, or violates the rights of others. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
(1) using the device to take unwanted/unsolicited photographs/videos.
(2) using the device at all in locker rooms or bathrooms;
(3) cheating and/or academic dishonesty; and
(4) creating, sending, sharing, viewing, receiving, or possessing an indecent visual depiction of non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images (i.e., sexting).
Parents must contact students via the Main Office.
Headphones/earbuds are not to be used during instructional time without the permission of the teacher. Headphones may be used during non-instructional times; for safety reasons, students must ensure at least 1 ear is left open and clear of headphones/earbuds to hear emergency warnings, information, and/or directions from staff. Headphones/earbuds are not provided by the school, yet there are times when a teacher may assign a video to be watched and listened to independently. For this reason, it is recommended that students have headphones/earbuds available.
