Arrival Time
Students walking to or being dropped off at school are to arrive NO earlier than 7:35. When students do arrive at school before 8:00, they should go directly to the cafeteria (not the classroom). Classroom teachers are not required to be in their classrooms until 8:00, at which time proper supervision can be done in the classroom setting. If you are dropping off your child after the school day begins at 8:05 a.m., parents MUST sign in their child at the office. All doors are set to lock at 8:05.
Dismissal Time
Please follow the procedure for end of the day dismissal at Simon. These precautions are made for your child’s safety and will be enforced to ensure the safety for ALL students.
Bus students are dismissed from their classrooms at 2:45 p.m.. We do have some buses that leave Simon before the actual dismissal
time at 2:55, the reason for this is to have these buses back at the main
campus (McNair/WHS) to pick up students by 3:05. All the other students will remain in the classrooms until the buses have left, usually by 2:55 p.m. Students must go directly home or to their sitters and are not to return to the school grounds until after 5:00 p.m.. We cannot have any students on the playground immediately after-school because Kids Club uses the playground.
Students are to be picked up and dropped off at the back of the school building at the beginning of the school day and at dismissal time. Parents are asked to park on the school blacktop to the north or in back of the school rather than in the front of the building, so that bus exiting and boarding will run smoothly and safely. This will help avoid the possibility of students running between buses to get to the school entrance. Parents are asked to enter the school grounds at the Pecatonica entrance and exit onto Winnebago Street from 7:40-8:05 a.m. and from 2:45 - 3:10 p.m. This way, all of the traffic will be moving in one, rather than several directions.
Walkers need to avoid the blacktop area to the north and the parking lot in the back of the school because of the amount of traffic that flows in that area. Students should either wait for an adult to make sure it is safe or find a different route to walk.
Also, please do not drop off or pickup your child in the front of Simon Elementary (S. Benton). The school buses need to have the street free of parking traffic to safely drop off and pick up students.
If children need to be dropped off prior to 7:35 a.m., morning Kids Club services will be available for parents for a fee. Morning Kids Club starts as early as 6:30 a.m.
