Winnebago hosts kindergarten registration March 11

Winnebago CUSD #323 hosts its Kindergarten Registration Fair on Thurs., March 11 at the Seward Learning Center. Families can register their child for the 2010-2011 kindergarten year, visit the kindergarten classrooms, learn about transportation and medical requirements, and meet with representatives of several organizations from the school district and community.  

Winnebago High School earns spot on 2009 Illinois Honor Roll

Winnebago High School is one of 147 schools across the State to receive a spot on the 2009 Illinois Honor Roll. To receive this award, Winnebago High School had to show an upward trend on Prairie State Achievement Exam scores and increase scores in reading and math by at least 7.5 points a year the last two years.

Winnebago CUSD #323 hosts preschool screening

Winnebago CUSD #323 will conduct preschool screenings on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 for children whose birthdates are between 9/1/05 and 2/24/07 to determine possible eligibility for fall enrollment in Winnebago CUSD #323’s preschool program.

Discus State record holder signs with UW

Alex Thompson will continue his track and field success when he signs with the University of Wisconsin at Madison Thurs., Feb. 18 at noon in the Winnebago High School Library. Thompson holds the Class A State Record in discus as a two-time state champion.

Parent/Teacher conference date changed

Winnebago CUSD #323 announced a date change for February Parent/Teacher Conferences. The date has been changed from Thurs., Feb. 18 to Wed., Feb. 17 due to the hosting of Class 2A Sectionals.

Winnebago’s Stand-out Goalkeeper Signs with D-1 Wright State

Nick Huftalin, a four-year varsity starter for the Winnebago Indian Soccer Team, will sign with Wright State University on Thurs., Feb. 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the Winnebago High School Library. As No. 18 for the Indians, Huftalin was a four year all-conference goalkeeper and a two year all sectional honorable mention.

Dorothy Simon Elementary School celebrates 100th day of school

Students and staff at Dorothy Simon Elementary are glad school was in session today as they celebrate the 100th day of school. Throughout the curriculum today, the theme will consist of counting and studying things that have to do with the great number 100. Students showed their creativity by wearing clothes with 100 things on them.

Winnebago’s Girl’s Basketball Coach Celebrates 400th Win

Winnebago Girl’s Basketball Coach Judy Krause celebrated her 400th win on Sat., Jan 30 against the Oregon Hawks. She will receive the game ball from her 400th win and a celebration in her honor will take place at the home game Friday, Feb. 5 at 7:00 p.m.

Rockford Ice Hogs players will kick off the Winnebago Middle School Community Literacy Program “Reading Across Winnebago” program Thurs,. Jan. 28 at an assembly at 2:50 p.m. at the Winnebago Middle School.

Top mathletes compete at Winnebago for math accolades

Thursday night the fourth annual NIATM competition was held at Winnebago High.  Overall results found Hononegah in first place with 378 points, Harlem in second with 305 points, and Boylan in third place with 266 points.  Ten math teams competed, including the top three winners mentioned previously, and Belvidere, Byron, Rochelle, Stillman Valley, Winnebago, Woodstock, and Woodstock North.

High School Students from Across Northern Illinois Compete Tonight for Top Mathematician Honor

Over 300 students will compete tonight at Winnebago High School to see who reigns supreme in the field of mathematics. Northern Illinois Association of Mathematics Teachers (NIATM) hosts the math competition today from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Ten schools will participating: Boylan, Byron, East High, Harlem, Harvard, Hononegah, Rochelle, Stillman Valley, Winnebago, and Woodstock/Woodstock North.

Winnebago CUSD #323 pledges funds to continue DARE program

Winnebago CUSD #323 Board of Education approved funding for the fifth grade DARE program at Jean McNair Elementary. Last spring at the DARE graduation, Chief Stockburger announced that due to budget constraints the Village of Winnebago would no longer be able to fund the DARE program.
